Gujarat, 12 Dec, 2007 : Polling hovered around the 60-65 per cent mark in the peaceful first phase of the Gujarat elections on 11 December. 58 constituencies of Saurashtra-Kutch and 29 in South Gujarat went to polls on Tuesday with over 52,000 Central paramilitary forces personnel deployed at the booths.

Sanjay Dutt went back to Arthur Road jail to serve three-and-a-half years sentence after being convicted in 1993 Bombay blasts case. Meanwhile, TADA court allowed him access to medicines, home-food, fan and to take along his mattress and pillow for his stay in the jail.
