New Delhi, 16 Dec, 2007 : India is celebrating the 36th anniversary of its victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war on 16th December. This day is a landmark in the history of the armed forces as it was on this day in 1971 that Indian forces inflicted a crushing defeat on Pakistan resulted in the liberation of Bangladesh from Pakistan. Indian Defence Minister A.K. Antony, along with three chiefs of Indian defence forces laid wreath at the "Amar Jawan Jyoti".

120 killed in India monsoon floods: officials

Military helicopters carry out emergency food drops for thousands of people stranded by flash flooding from early monsoon rains which have killed at least 120 in northern India. Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh is among those stranded by the flooding.
