Automobile sector seeks cut in excise duty

New Delhi, Feb 20, 2008 : Automobile industry has sought for the reduction in the excise duty. According to analysts tracking the sector currently small cars, two wheelers and commercial vehicles are taxed at 16 %, while big cars attract an excise duty of 24 %. However, there is little hope that the budget will favor the automobile industry, which has been hit hard by a sharp rise in interest rates over the past year.

Heavy security requisitioned for Indian Grand Prix

Noida, September 05 (ANI): The police department of Noida was on Sunday requisitioned for 1,600 personnel for the upcoming Indian Grand Prix of the international Formula One calendar. Jyoti Narayan, Senior Superintendent of Police, Noida, said that the police were in touch with Federation Internationale de lAutomobile (FIA), the organisers of the race, over the security requirements for the race. Narayan also said that while the event required massive security inputs, given its international stature, security arrangements also had to be coordinated properly because the race would coincide with the festive season.
