Kolkata, May 12 (ANI): Car rallies today have become a source of fast gaining popularity, a true test of efficiency of the man and his machine. Hundreds of sports enthusiasts came together in Kolkata today to participate in a car rally, which was organized to mark the completion of 150th birth anniversary celebrations of spiritual leader, Swami Vivekananda. The Sports Minister of West Bengal, Madan Mitra, said that he was extremely thankful to the organizers for having chosen Kolkata as the preferred destination for the rally.

Don't need any foreign coach or trainers: Dhanraj Pillay

Upset with the performance of the Indian team at the London Olympics, former Indian captain Dhanraj Pillay has slammed Hockey India for not picking the right players for the Olympics. However, he also feels that Indian hockey doesn't require any foreign coach or trainers.

Ajit Wadekar gets Castrol Cricket Lifetime Achievement Award

Former Indian skipper Ajit Wadekar got awarded with the 'Castrol Cricket Lifetime Achievement Award' for his contribution to the sport during an event in Bangalore. Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar handed over the award trophy to the cricket veteran under whose leadership India won the historical 1971 Test match against West Indies.

Pranab gives Khel Ratna to Vijay and Yogeshwar

President Pranab Mukherjee, conferred the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna-the country's top sports award to medal-winning Olympic shooter Vijay Kumar and wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt respectively in New Delhi. Both were awarded with a medallion, a citation and a cash award of 750,000 rupees each. Notable among the 25 Arjuna Awardees were archers Deepika Kumari and Laishram Bombayla Devi, badminton players Ashwini Ponnappa and Parupalli Kashyap, cricketer Yuvraj Singh, hockey player Sardar Singh, wrestler Geeta Phogat and specially abled athlete Deepa Malik.

BWF disqualifies 'cheats'

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has disqualified eight women's badminton players after accusing them of "not using one's best efforts to win". Four pairs of players - two from South Korea and one each from China and Indonesia - are out of the Olympics after their matches on Tuesday. The eight were charged after a stream of basic errors during the match. All four pairs were accused for cheating, trying to manipulate the draw and tanking their matches.
