Kokrajhar /New Delhi, July 23 (ANI): Security is stepped in Kokrajhar district of Assam after violence claimed the life of 19 people as fighting between indigenous tribes and Muslim settlers erupted over the weekend. The protesters today stopped the Rajdhani Express. Businesses, offices and schools remained closed today and streets were deserted. Authorities imposed a night-time curfew to prevent more violence and central troops moved into remote areas to deal with threats of more violence.

Rescue operations underway in Joshimath

Rescue and relief operations are underway in Joshimath in Uttarakhand, which has been hit by severe floods. Some 18 helicopters have rescued 5,000 people in the worst-hit Uttarakhand. Tens of thousands of pilgrims are stranded in Uttarakhand, where more than 100 people have been killed.
